7 Best Crime Thrillers Made In India!

Image
Crime thrillers are tough to make. Either you bore the audience while building the premise or entice the audience. Even the audience plays a crucial factor here. Some love fast-paced screenplay and some look for more details and storylines. Nonetheless, the Indian film industry's success in making good crime thrillers is a glass half-full. With some knit-gritting fiction to most of them adapting or seeking inspiration from real-life incidents, our industry has found its way in building a stronghold in this genre.  Here's my list of some of the best crime thriller movies and documentaries-series you should not miss! Dahaad The recently released Amazon Prime's Dahaad is an eight-episode series that takes you through the gruesome story of 27 women disappearing without a trace and being found dead in one manner. As the case unfolds, every character's flaws too come out. Interestingly, this series not only covers the dark side of a psychopathic criminal but also unfolds the

Decoding SLB's world- Gangubai Kathiawadi

Image
Official Poster of Gangubai Kathiawadi. Sanjay Leela Bhansali's filmography is a case study in itself. His keen speciality is from grandeur costumes to larger-than-life sets and epic music. One such is Gangubai Kathiawadi starring Alia Bhatt as the titular character.  The film that was released in 2022 had a re-release on account of its first anniversary. SLB's magic on screen was evident with the film being absolutely beautiful and resplendent in every aspect. Here's my quick analysis of why Sanjay Leela Bhansali is a film school himself. DETAILED RESEARCH AND EXECUTION Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Gangubai Kathiawadi is inspired by S. Hussain Zaidi's book Mafia Queens Of Mumbai. The film showcases the life story of Ganga Jagjivandas Kathiawadi who was sold to a brothel owner by her lover, and how she rose to become Gangubai Kothewali. Sanjay Leela Bhansali ensured that all facts were true and thus showed the actual Mumbai to us. Every scene has the essence of vintage M

Bollywood Is Not Dead!- Pathaan, Bholaa, TJMM etc.

Pathaan finally achieved what no other Bollywood film has done. The film has finally surpassed the six-year-old record of Bahubali- The Conclusion by becoming the number one film at the Indian box office. Bahubali- The Conclusion earned approximately 511 crores in its lifetime box office run whereas Pathaan achieved it in less than six weeks.  Pathaan has so far earned 513.75 crores and with no big film releasing till Tuesday, Pathaan still can earn a few crores before ending its glorious run at the box office. It has already earned the tag of All Time Blockbuster.  Pathaan has not only revived Bollywood but also proven that the national hub of Indian Cinema was or will never be dead. Just because one year of bad cinema doesn't mean it's dead or can't be revived back. Even though Pathaan has been a rage, the other A-listers' films haven't worked. With Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor's Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar, all set to take a double-digit opening on Holi and

THE ROMANTICS- Yash Chopra and his legacy...

Image
Netflix's newest offering 'The Romantics' is a documentary that pays tribute to the legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra ji and his legacy in the Hindi film Industry. The four-episode documentary series covers the lesser-known facts and the downfall and rise of YRF (Yashraj Films).  The show interviews the biggest of industry stars, including SRK, Amitabh Bachchan, Bhumi Pednekar, Rani Mukherjee, Anushka Sharma, and more. It also has a sneak peek of Aditya Chopra (probably his first official interview). The series starts with the rise of B.R. Chopra (Yash Chopra's brother) and his films with Yashraj ji's career taking a leap. The debut of Yashraj ji and all his films speak about his love for the art of filmmaking and creating new cinema every time. His first film Dhool Ka Phool released in 1959 was a melodrama of illegitimacy. He was known to bring all the A-stars in one film- Waqt (1965). Since then he continued to give gems like Deewar, Chandni, Lamhe, Darr and so on..

The Death Of Rom-Coms. Jab We Met Returns, etc !

Image
Either you love rom-coms or not, there is no middle ground to it. In the past the tried and tested rom-coms have worked only because of the actors or the great music. Otherwise, people have moved on from the rom-com genre. Despite his ‘sufi’-ness in his films, Imtiaz Ali hasn't offered a good romcom in the past 6 years. Jab Harry Met Sejal (2017) and Love Aaj Kal (2020) both failed miserably despite the lead actor’s impeccable chemistry. The same goes for Karan Johar. His romcoms have the same tried and tested formula that has worked so far but will it work again with Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, only time will tell. Luv Ranjan is the only director who has patented to give classic rom-coms. With the Pyaar Ka Punchnama series, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety or his next with Ranbir and Shraddha Kapoor Tu Jhoothi Mein Makkar, every film has the same formula (two mischievous loggerhead lovers) but yet has that one distinct quality which is the treatment of the characters. The vividness and b

The mergence of all film industries- Farzi, Merry Christmas, Citadel etc.

Bollywood is no longer standing alone as the leading film-making industry. In the past few years, the South and Punjabi film industry too has grown tremendously and has been arching some great films every year. But the new trend of actors collaborating and moving from one industry to another for better filmography has led to better scaling of films in every aspect. This merger of the artists has led to amazing and successful collaborations. Even though this is not a new concept, previously Sridevi has worked in almost every industry. Newbies Rakulpreet Singh and Pooja Hegde have been a part of almost as many as five industries. This concept has now proven to be beneficial for audiences to accept their favourite artists in every genre of film with their favourite filmmakers.  The upcoming films and series below will make sure to light up your screens and faces with some amazing collaborations across the industries. SHAHRUKH KHAN- Not Finished?

Image
Picture Credits: Bollywood Gags Shahrukh Khan’s Pathaan is shattering every other box office record and is on its way to becoming the highest-grossing film in the country. Bahubali 2 stands still with that record. It earned Rs. 511 crores and any film closest to that was KGF 2 last year (434 crores rupees). Pathan so far stands at around Rs.401 crores after a humongous second Saturday. It has surpassed Dangal’s collection and has a good chance to surpass KGF 2 by Monday. With 2 weeks more left before Shehzada releases (which was planned to release on 10th February, but has now been postponed for a week), there are high chances of Siddharth Anand's directorial crossing the lifetime collections of Bahubali 2.  This is Shahrukh Khan’s biggest hit after Chennai Express (2013). Post that he did taste success but not up to the mark of his standard. Shahrukh Khan reunited with his Jab Tak Hai Jaan costars Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif for Aanand L Rai’s directorial Zero. The film had a

Pathaan- The Revival Of Bollywood!

Image
Official Poster of Pathaan Bollywood went through a big crisis last year with all the films burning down the hill. Hardly few films earned at the box office. This Republic Day, Shahrukh Khan’s Pathaan was released and is shattering every single record at the box office. Netizens waited for four years to see Shahrukh Khan. His last film was Aanand L Rai’s Zero with Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif which was a dud at the box office. Shahrukh Khan’s comeback has given Bollywood much-needed relief after the disastrous start of 2023 with Arjun Kapoor and Tabu’s Kuttey failing flat too.    Here are some reasons why Pathaan is doing wonders amidst the controversies and the trend of Boycott Bollywood.      Strong Pre Release Buzz Shahrukh Khan’s much-awaited comeback, John Abraham as the villain and Deepika Padukone not only being the glam quotient but also having tough action sequences made the whole film hold a strong buzz. Siddharth Anand’s expertise in high-octane action films like War and

Male Gazing- Beshraram Rang, Ghungroo, Oo Antava...etc.

Pathan is scheduled to release this coming Friday. But the controversy around it never ends. One such controversy is on the song Besharam Rang featuring Deepika Padukone and Shahrukh Khan. Few political parties and netizens found the song to be vulgar and objectifying the female lead. Well, the song sung by Shilpa Rao and composed by Vishal Shekhar and has over 200 million views on the YouTube channel of YRF (Yashraj Developers) has been criticized for promoting male gazing, here's my analysis on male gazing and the portrayal of women in the songs of Indian films. Credits- Deepika Padukone from Besharam Rang (Pathan) Besharam Rang, according to me when it comes to music has a mediocre composition but it hardly objectifies women. Wearing a bikini in a foreign clad doesn’t make it any vulgar. The song, if carefully noticed has long and pan shots of Deepika in a bikini. Whereas another Siddharth Anand directorial blockbuster film War (2019) definitely had some objectification. Ghung

Is Bollywood finished? Potential hits of 2023 and more!

Image
2022 was one of the worst years in the history of Hindi Cinema. With just a few hits and many flops and disasters, Bollywood was said to be finished by the netizens. The rose of South Indian-led pan-Indian films like RRR, KGF 2, Karthikeya 2 and Kantara to name a few made audiences feel disconnected from the Hindi Cinema. The smaller budget films still scored some numbers but the most anticipated films like Runway 34, Bhediya, Vikram Vedha, Laal Singh Chaddha, Rakshabandhan and Ramsetu failed to bring in audiences despite great content. Rohit Shetty’s Cirkus too fell flat at the box office making it his first commercial flop in his glorious career.  Now that 2023 has started and there are some high hopes from Bollywood, the question that makes everyone think ‘Is Bollywood really dead?’ ‘Will it make a comeback soon?’ Well, no one has the answer but here’s a list of potential hits which can revive Bollywood!   Pathaan Shahrukh Khan’s comeback to films after 4 years Pathaan, costarring D
